Feature and Follow • 4

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison can read as a great way to find new book blogs.

This week's question -  What is one book you would be nervous to see a movie adaptation of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

My response - all books, even bad ones! I am such a stickler on this that if I love a book enough, I refuse to watch the movie rendition. It's true! I posted about this once. When I read a book, I literally immerse myself in the story and watch in unfold like a movie in my mind. And if the book is really, really good, I fall in love with everyone therein - I buy a house down the street from the main character and set up play dates. Watching movie renditions of books breaks my heart because most of the time, lots of great character and story development is sacrificed in the making of the movie.  Yes I know that the movies can't have everything that was written in the book, but I feel that many of the decisions made around capturing the essence of the book's storyline is flawed. And character casting kills me too!  I have an image of the character in my head already and then some movie star shows up and I think - "and well who might you be? oh you think you're ...? what?! Oh no you didn't! I don't think so!!"  Sadly I do think that sometimes and yes in those words.  Let it lay folks, let it lay.
I know that I am in the minority though and truth be told, not all book-to-movie renditions are bad.  Some are truly fantastic - The Lord of the Rings for example.  But then again, I have not read the books and I keep putting them off too! hmm...
Happy Reading everyone!

  1. That's fair enough - I have to admit, I tend to watch the movies, then complain a lot if they don't match up to my expectation!

Thanks for stopping by my FF, now following via networkblogs!

  2. I completely agree with you- I rarely like movies based on books if I've read the book- it ruins it. I didn't even like Harry Potter (The Deathly Hallows was the only one I accepted...sortof). Or The Hunger Games. I agree, LOTR is good but I haven't read the books either. I think movies ruin books and ruin the characters and setting you had in your imagination.

  3. interesting! the movie never lives up to the book. and when the movie IS good or close to the book it's a surprise. i always expect booktomovie adaptations to suck!

    1. Thanks for swinging by my blog. Based on what I've heard - I agree with you, Divergent should NOT be on the list of movie renditions. But based on what I've heard, it might be someday...

  5. Hopping through. I'm very nervous about all books too. Although often times, I can appreciate the movies for what they are. The Twilight movies certainly aren't perfect, but I like them apart from the books.

  6. I thought that they did a great job with LOTR, but look how long it took them. Good adaptations take time....

  8. I certainly agree with some of the things you've pointed up, no book to movie adaption I think can ever be perfect, but actually I still love some of them while some I just think are epic failures :)

    1. Ah the epic failures! Sometimes the renditions are so bad, it's like you're watching another story all together! Thanks for swinging by!

  11. I watch book-to-movie adaptations anyways, because I just love to see how my favorite characters and stories are turned into life, no matter how unfaithful they are to the book. And yes, LotR was fantastic!!
