In My Mailbox (IMM) is a weekly meme hosted by thestorysiren.com. eReaderMo version of this weekly feature will be posted almost every Sunday.
This was a fairly light week for me, but I'm not complaining. I spent the week reading at leisure and drafting up my reviews. A very productive and enjoyable endeavor I must say, however since I have so many books to read for myself, I decided to give myself a break.
This week, my books are centered around my children. I have three children 11, 8 and 4 and while I try to read with them every night, they are all at obviously at different phases of reading so it's a little difficult sometimes to find books that engage them all.
Thanks to some free books to review and a trip to our local B&N, I got three different books to read with my children.
The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo.
Kate DiCamillo is a favorite in our household (Think The tale of Despereaux and Because of Winn Dixie). My daughter asked that I read this with her so we could talk about it. Seeing that I'm about to enter the teen years where requests to share activities with my daughter will be few and far between, I jumped on this request.
Amulet, Book 3: The Cloud Searchers - by Kazu Kibuishi
This was my 8-yr old's request. This series is fairly popular in the third grade this year and since the school library only had books 1 & 2 of the series, we got book 3 to read and discuss. It looks like fun!
The Adventures of the Frog Prince - by J. R. Barker
This I received to review courtesy of my fab goodreads group, Read it and Reap. I plan to read this to my youngest, and hopefully my other two as well.
A few weeks ago, I posted that I deplored reading more than one book at once (this post right here) but I guess, I'm a big fat hypocrite because I do it every day when I read with my children! Ha! There's egg on my face. Ah well, it could be worse couldn't it?
That's my IMM for the week! I'm always looking for the next best read, so please share what you're reading with me!
Happy Reading!
The Magician's Elephant looks like an awesome read for kids. Enjoy reading, and I hope your kids enjoy it as well!

Thanks for swinging by. Your IMM haul looks quite good!
DeleteHi there, you have cute books here. I am a huge fan of children's lit, so I'm glad to see a Kate Di Camilo book here. I think I have a copy of this one lying in my bookshelves, waiting to be read. Amulet also looks nice. Enjoy your reads!

Those look like cute reads! I hope you enjoy all you got :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my IMM!
You got a lot of nice books this week. I don't have kids but I do have an entire shelf dedicated to my niece. I send her books once a month (mostly Goosebumps because that's what she wanted). I definitely think reading is a lot better for her than all those video games that she likes to play.

Thank you! It's amazing what your kids will pick up if you leave them alone to pick something they like.

I kind of read more than one book at once, but usually I have a main book that I'm reading at any one time.

I happened upon your blog through a link from kwizgiver. Your blog is great! I had gotten "The Magician's Elephant" on Kindle but guessed I'd have to wait awhile for my five-year-old son to be interested in it. We're reading chapter books at bedtime, but it takes a special story to keep him engaged.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thanks for swinging by my blog! I love yours as well!
DeleteHappy reading!

Great mailbox. Those sound like cute books to read to your kids. My daughter is starting to like longer stories, but she still wants picture books.
